Rugs are a great way to improve the look of any room. They are perfect for entertaining guests in the living room, elevate the decor of your bedroom and create a safe place to play for your children. They are a great investment, but only if some key factors are taken into consideration. Following are some thoughts to keep in mind when choosing a rug for your living room.

Size

Source: Pixabay

Size matters, at least when it comes to choosing the right rug. One of the main mistakes made is choosing a rug which is too small for the room. Such rugs are generally known as postage-stamp-size rugs. Rugs generally come in three dimensions; 6×9  feet, 8×10 feet and 9×12 feet. These are sizes that you generally get in every store. If these dimensions don’t fit your needs, then you can get one custom made. This may charge you up a little, especially if you go for an expensive fabric. The thing to remember for custom rugs is to always leave 4 to 8 inches of bare floor around the rug.

Shape

Source: Pixabay

Rectangular shaped rugs are the norm. It is the standard shape for all rugs that you will find in the market. However, ever since the early 80s, other shapes have also made their way into the rug market. Oval and circular shapes are the most common that you find other than rectangular. These rugs are also handy if you are short on space in the room. If you have a circular shaped dining or coffee table, then a circular rug will be a perfect fit. For children, you can find rugs which are in fun shapes which accentuates their room better.

Colour and Pattern

Source: Pixabay

When choosing a rug make sure that the colour scheme and pattern match the room. You can either go for a patterned rug or a solid colour rug. A patterned rug will help add a little colour complexity to an otherwise neutral coloured room. On the other hand, a solid coloured rug will add some balance to an aesthetically ornate room. One advantage of a patterned rug is that spills and dirt don’t stain on it that easy. If you plan for a linear route and get a solid coloured rug for a neutral room, make sure the colours are such that they don’t fight each other. Another thing to make sure is that the flooring and the carpet shouldn’t contrast each other.

Texture

Source: Pixabay

A rug in your room stimulates two senses; sight and touch. While a rug should be appealing to the eyes, it also feels good to touch. Also, each fabric will suit a different environment. If you are into a soft and warm touch then wool is your fabric. If cool surfaces are for you, then jute is your option. Acrylic, Polypropylene and Viscose are synthetic materials which are blended with natural fibres for better longevity and maintenance. Wool, Cotton, Jute and Sisal are natural fibres, out of which Sisal is made for areas of heavy use.

Multiple Rugs

While a single rug is enough to add some depth to your room, you can add more dimensions to it by adding multiple layers of rugs. Lay down a base of a large rug, preferably of a darker shade, and keep adding smaller rugs on top. You can use varying shades of the same colour, start dark and grow lighter. You can also use rugs with complementing patterns and layer them over each other. You can play with the shapes too, start with a rectangular rug and place a circular rug. It is a great look during the winter festive season as it adds some cosiness and warmth to the room.

Function

Source: Pexels

When considering function, you should think of your lifestyle. You shouldn’t purchase anything that doesn’t fit effortlessly into your household. Same goes for a rug. Before purchasing a rug make sure it aesthetically matches your home decor. A contrasting rug, no matter how well constructed, would feel like an eyesore in your house. One of the best ways to decide is to analyse how much time you plan on spending in that room and how you plan on using it. Another thing to consider is whether you plan on entertaining people in that room. All of these factors will help you assess the necessary durability and pattern of your rug.

Correct Timing

Source: Pexels

Choosing the rug before the room is done or after makes a lot of difference. It all depends on what you would like to be the centre of attraction in the room. If you plan on a rug to be the star, then place the rug first and build the room around it. Otherwise, build the room first and add all your decor and then decide what rug suits the interior best.

Consider Flooring

Source: Pexels

Your floor acts as a backdrop to your rug. It is the platform on which you plan on creating your painting. You need to make sure that the colours and the pattern do not contrast the floor beneath. You can either go for a rug which perfectly merges with the floor texture and colour. Otherwise, you can go opposite and use a rug which is different in colour but complementing the floor. In the end, make sure that it ties the entire room together.

Think of your Neighbours

Source: Pexels

If you don’t live in the suburbs and have an apartment building, you might be sharing a wall with your neighbours next to you and beneath you. Considering their benefit, you might want to go for a rug which absorbs the sound of you walking around. This is also applicable to people with duplex. If you don’t want the noise to carry from the rooms on the first floor to the ground floor, then a plush woollen rug is for you.

Conclusion

As you can see above, there are a lot of things to keep in mind before purchasing a rug. It may look tedious, but following these points will make sure that every rug purchase you make goes perfect with the room you choose it for.

Rug Cleaning Tips At Home

Rugs and carpets are perfect for adding that extra charm to your home. However, they also tend to accumulate plenty of unwanted dirt, dust, stains, and if you have pets, then animal hair too. Also, according to many microbiology experts, rugs are home to a plethora of microorganisms, like, mold, bacteria, pathogens, pollen particles, among others. This reason is the cause of why frequent rug cleaning is absolutely necessary. There are specific solutions that you should keep in mind to maintain the cleanliness and freshness of your rugs. Read on to find some of the best rug cleaning hacks that can leave the carpets at your home looking fresh as well as beautiful.

Vacuum clean the rugs frequently

Vacuum clean the rugs frequently

This step is the most obvious step for keeping the rugs and carpets clean. Vacuuming the carpets once a week can keep debris, dirt, and dust away. If the debris penetrates deep into the carpet, then it becomes difficult to remove it. However, before you start your vacuum, make sure to give your carpet a shake to unroot any trapped debris within the fabric of the rug. It is advisable to use the suction-only feature instead of the rotary brush to avoid any damage to the fibers of the carpet. You can also sprinkle antibacterial powders on the rugs to get rid of the disease-causing germs. Also, make sure to dust the carpet underside as well – at least one time in a month.

Leave your shoes away from your rugs

Leave your shoes away from your rugs

After laying down your rugs and carpets, start using doormats diligently. Completely avoid wearing shoes inside your house, particularly on your floorcloth, as shoes could ruin the fabric of the rug over some time. Studies also show that the chemicals used to build roads is toxic for our homes; our shoes pick up these chemicals and leave them on the fabric of the carpet. In fact, your carpet acts like a magnet collecting everything that your shoes pick up from indoors as well as outdoors.

Use DIY hacks to get rid of tough stains

Use DIY hacks to get rid of tough stains

Few of the Do-it-yourself hacks are pretty popular in getting rid of the toughest of stains.

  • Shaving cream

Using shaving cream to remove stains is a trick recommended by professional cleaners. Normal shaving cream works brilliantly in removing even heavy stains from the surface of rugs and carpets. Apply a plentiful amount of shaving cream on the affected area and leave it to dry for almost 30 to 45 minutes. After the area dries up, take a white cotton cloth and blot the region to get rid of the stain from the surface of the carpet.

  • Warm water and vinegar

Mix equal parts of white wine vinegar and warm water. Use this solution to wash up tough stains such as red wine, mud, and coffee. You can also use club soda instead of warm water. Spray the solution on the surface of the stained rug, leave it for 15-20 minutes, and then with the help of a sponge or white cotton cloth, blot the affected region. For cleaning mud, it is best to leave the area to dry and vacuum it later on.

Take care of stains and spillages immediately

The more time you give to a stain or coffee spillage to set in on the fabric of your floorcloth, the harder it gets to remove it. Also, always make sure to blot the spot – and do not scrub. It is advisable not to use a colored cloth, as it might transfer the dye to your beautiful carpet; further, aggravating your problem. You can take a white cotton cloth, dampen it a bit, and blot the concerned area till the time all the liquid gets absorbed. After cleaning the stain, leave the rug to dry for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours.

Consider washable rugs

Consider washable rugs

The best method to lower your worries is to buy washable rugs. Machine-washable rugs can be regularly cleaned, keeping your rug always clean. Also, if your carpets are placed in a room full of sunlight then make sure to rotate them from time to time as due to the sun’s light their patterns would fade out. This step is especially crucial for rugs that are antique or royally handmade, as they are delicate and more susceptive to wear and tear.

Protect from pets

Protect from pets

Pets get attracted to the soft and smooth fiber of the rug. Cats and dogs chew the fabric and inflict bite marks additionally. You can limit the damage caused to the material of the floorcloth, by buying rugs and carpets that are specially manufactured for pet owners. Buying dark-colored materials can also help in disguising the damage caused by the pets. Make use of professional carpet cleaning and spraying products that can immediately take care of pet urine odor, mud, pet hair, among others. When it comes to caring for carpets and rugs, getting rid of the smell of pet urine is the toughest job. If you do not have a pet odor remover at home, you can use a mixture of ammonia and water in a 1:1 ratio to get rid of the smell. Spray this solution on the carpet and leave it for 5-7 minutes. Use a hard brush and clean the spot outwards.

Conclusion

Carpets add style and decor to your home; however, they become a necessity during the winters to keep your feet away from the cold floors. Apart from the aforementioned tips, you would want to get the help of professional cleaning experts. We agree that professional cleaners could be expensive, but the deep cleaning carried out by them is worth all your money. Hence, you can call professional cleaners for help at least once a year to give your rugs and carpets a clean and shining appearance.

Indian cricket fanatics are more than happy to create the IPL frenzy from the comfort of their homes. Which team are you rooting for, as a die-hard IPL fan? Additionally, would you like to incorporate the colors of your favorite team into your home decor? If yes, then fellow KKR fans, this one’s for you.

1. Plush Cushions and Themed Lighting

Plush cushions and Themed Lighting

The colors that symbolise Kolkata Knight Riders – purple and gold- can team up to echo some royal decor. Gold accessories like frames and lights paired with regal purple couches can bring out the best of décor giving an unusual combination to play around with.

2. Bedroom Color

Bedroom color

Gold and purple? Hell yes! The colors of Kolkata Knight Riders can spice up your decor. Just splash your walls with a purple hue and incorporate the courageous gold into pillows, window drapes or accessories. You should not be afraid to explore this combination.

3. Themed Furniture

 Themed Furniture

Rich variants of violet and purple have been associated with power and royalty for a long time. When embellished with gold, this color combination is invincible. The fans of Kolkata Knight Riders can derive inspiration from the powerful color combination in their team jerseys to demonstrate their dominance in the league. As seen in the picture below, not only is the velvet-encased armchair sophisticated and decadent, the gleaming gold pendant lamp adds to the classic look.

4. Kitchen Accessories

Brazen and bold, the men in purple and gold makeup in talent what they have perhaps been lacking in luck! This is a powerful combination of colours that perfectly balances the grounding force of purple against the vigour and verve of gold. This is a very popular choice among designers.  This kitchen gets the pairing of gold and purple right, with plenty of white elements to tone down the fire.

5. Look for Inspiration

Look for inspiration

Derive your inspiration from sports bars and cafes. Suspend a few cricket balls from your ceiling, put a cricket bat on the wall or get a dartboard so that people can take turns at it between overs. An inexpensive alternative would be getting a whiteboard and markers on which you could encourage your friends to doodle images or messages.

6. Create the Right Ambience

Create the Right Ambience
Picture: Collected

The easiest way to create a sporty ambience for cricket is to get good wall decals or graphics. Get a vinyl print of your favorite Kolkata Knight Riders’ player and put it up on your wall. Things like a poster of a batsman about to swing his bat or a fielder about to take a catch can add a very life-size feel to your interiors. Some hardcore cricket fans even have their entire walls covered in canvas prints that are square-shaped. These prints could feature anything, from cricket balls to gloves to bats and footballs.  You could build up your cricket collection during your trips to the stadium or from a cricket equipment store.

Minimalism is the way to go

Nevertheless, there is no need for you to be so strictly elaborate. You could be minimalistic, and strew a few KKR jerseys or caps around. Some of your friends, who might’ve come over to watch the match at your place, may be interested in trying them out.  Additionally, your interior decor is a good opportunity to show off any balls, bats or jerseys that you might have signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders’ players themselves.

7. Design Elements

Design Elements

Sometimes, just incorporating the color into your decor doesn’t do it for you. The KKR decor calls for true commitment. Here is what you can do. Use a Kolkata Knight Riders themed mug to sip your morning coffee. Add kitchen accessories like plates, cups, etc. in the similar theme or in the purple and gold shades of KKR. If you are prepared to invest a little more, you could also get KKR-themed curtains, bedsheets, duvets, spreads and rugs.  For a very unique and a hardcore fan look, you could also showcase replicas of KKR’s trophies on a shelf in your living room. If you are innovative, you could try custom designing or looking for a life-size cardboard cutout of your favorite player. Nothing better than having the legends of Indian cricket – Dinesh Karthik and Sourav Ganguly – present in your room with you. Although it may be difficult to procure, it will be worth it.

8. Other tips

  • Shopping online is the most convenient way to accessorize your home with KKR-themed decor. Derive inspiration from shopping websites like Etsy. There are many Indian websites that are dedicated to a more cricket-oriented collection. Sites such as Postergully, Amazon and Flipkart have a great collection dedicated to sports. You can browse and shop according to your affordability, with lots of options at your disposal.
Other Tips
Picture : Collected
  • Especially in the case of outdoor sports, grass is a primary part of the picture. You could go bold and get an artificial turf floor altogether or have artificial grass surround your television or screen. This also helps in soundproofing the room. Therefore, incorporating some fake grass into your interior design plans is a good idea because it ensures that your neighbors don’t call the cops when you’re screaming your lungs out after Ferguson gets a wicket.
  • Please remember to not go overboard with the entire KKR decor. The Indian Premier League only lasts for two to two and a half months. But you have to live in your house forever. If possible, try to avoid permanent changes to your furniture or room decor. Refrain as much as you can from installing car-shaped beds or fixing in cricket stumps as room partitions. However, if you live with equally cricket-crazy people, let nothing be a hindrance to your imagination.

Using these tips and ideas, you can go ahead and experiment with different design materials styles based on the Kolkata Knight Riders theme and make your home look unique.

Traditional Home Decor Ideas

Indian interior design is steeped in a rich potpourri of history, like anything else that is Indian. It is a style that comes to us with mixed influences from our past. Indian interior design draws heavily from both of these sources, be it temple motif infrastructure from down south or the intricate sculptures seen on Mughal monuments. In the end, it is a style that is just as diverse as our society! But don’t get distracted by the sophistication and evolution of the Indian interior design theme. As it is easier than you think to execute these. These pro tips will add a desi vibe to your home. Read on to find out more.

1. There’s no such thing as too many colours

Home Design Ideas

Traditional-style décor incorporates colour but does so conservatively on walls. Select paint colours, such as soft yellows, greens, and blues, in mellow tones such as neutral greys and beiges. In accessories, use bolder colours. A completely different way of working with red and blue is by adding lighter colours such as beige and white. This provides a more breathable appearance to the place. Work for detail with contemporary patterns such as graphic prints, and textures such as cotton, rattan, jute, and wood. Teal is a great paint idea for the living room. You can either go for a teal accent wall or let the larger surface elements like the walls, carpets, and sofas dominate beige. Like your coffee table, pouf, sofa covers, lamps, and wall art, throw in large accents and furniture in teal. Just so that the room doesn’t look like a teal and beige chessboard, add white to break up the monotony.

2. Go for solid wood furniture

Solid Wood Furniture

Wooden furniture is one of the most wonderful interior decors. Wood is a beautiful material in and of itself and brings a special charm to your living room when it is used for furniture. In Indian interior design, solid wood furniture is an essential feature that represents our colonial nostalgia. Make the most of beautiful Indian craftsmanship for an authentic look, and select traditional pieces with curved armrests and legs, carvings, and metal or ivory engraving work.

Get some ornate centerpieces and use other more stylish furniture to complement them.

The key here is symmetry and balance when it comes to furniture placement. Community furniture, such as a sofa facing two chairs, encourages conversation. Use some refinished wood chairs with a cozy leather sofa, so not all pieces match. Antique And Vintage Furniture have a wide range of collections of antique and vintage wooden furniture, combined with etchings, carvings, Indian workmanship, mandi-inspired colours and rich fabrics, Rosewood and Teak wood furniture to offer perfectly traditional looks.

3. Inlays and carvings for extra charm

Cabinet

A perfect mix of functionality and aesthetics are typical Indian cabinets. They may also act as storage cabinets, brightly painted and embellished with inlay work using mirrors, stones, ivory, or metal. To lighten the mood of your quarters, use them as accents alongside solid wood pieces. Keep on to them and bring them to good use if you have heirloom furniture pieces.

4. Rugs and Swings

Add Swing & Rug to your living room

Rugs and floor cushions offer decoration with warmth and comfort and can be easily used. In these spaces, traditional Indian pieces like the swing can carry a playful vibe that encourages families to come together. The traditional design never goes out of style and it is proven by the simple fact that conventional rugs and carpets are still in demand. In comparison to the contemporary space models, the elegance of the traditional style of the rugs and carpets is even more prominent. Use pattern prints, which are very popular in traditional rugs, in different colours. Choose a contrasting colour relative to the interior colour. If you have a very light tonal colour in your living room, that looks great. Adding a rug or mattress with a striking dark hue will make the location several times more beautiful. Create a contrasting combination with double carpets. Two conventional carpets can easily be laid side by side by those who have a wide hall.

5. Fill up nooks and crannies

There are a lot of artifacts to choose from to decorate your house because India has a wide and exciting range of handicrafts. Masks, clay pottery, diyas, leather puppets, crockery, sandalwood decorative boxes, metal, or marble are common alternatives. Brass lamps and pots may be used as versatile metallic accents, too.

6. Soft furnishing with desi fabrics

Soft furnishing with desi fabrics

India is traditionally renowned for its fabrics that are beautifully crafted. In addition, these fabrics can be used in our homes in a variety of imaginative ways: long, flowing window drapes, simple sheets thrown over a divan, tapestries, and dhurries. Use fine fabrics with dabu or ikat prints as part of the use of Indian interior design to upholster your centerpieces or for your cushions. For side chairs, cotton and khadi can be used, while for smaller foot stools, simpler fabrics like jute can be used.

7. Don’t forget the Pooja room

Don’t forget the Pooja room

A traditional characteristic of Indian interior design is a place of worship inside the house called a Pooja room. Keeping pooja room designs as traditional as possible are recommended by using either stone (marble or granite) or wooden decor.

8. Hang up some artwork

Hang up some artwork
Picture: Collected

In traditional decor, bare walls have no place, so hang some paintings at eye level. Group items of similar size in a gallery wall and do not be afraid to include black and white pictures or even some contemporary pieces of art, many of which have a place in typical homes today. Most people enjoy hanging an image with a center of around 60 in. 6 to 8 inches from the surface, or the bottom edge. In your living room and add some of your favourite pieces and add a small vase of flowers, some candles or hang a heavy mirror over the mantle. You may hang traditional lamps or lantern lamps, and elegant watches. More antique statues and antique decorative pieces that give your traditional house a more formal look may be chosen.

Home Cleaning Tips

Cleaning your house and preparing for Diwali go hand-in-hand. As a part of Indian tradition welcoming the goddess Lakshmi in a clean home is quite fundamental. According to old sayings, the goddess blesses only the houses that are clean, well-lit, and decorated during the festival of lights. Another reason behind the beginning of the celebration of Diwali was to mark the victory of Lord Ram over evil and to welcome him home after 14 years of exile. Indians excitedly decorate their houses and light it with a wide variety of lights. Keeping the religious tradition to one side; the home cleaning ritual helps in taking care of all the uncleaned and decluttered spaces at your home. However, even the thought of cleaning the entire house can be overwhelming. Here are some simple house scrubbing tips that you can start with to ensure that your home sparkles as intensely as the lights in your home.

1. Division of the house area

Cleaning an entire house is not at all a simple task. It’s not just about cleaning and polishing only one section of the house, but there are many sections that you have to think about including, your kitchen, bedroom, living room, and pooja room. One of the trouble-free ways to do it right is to divide your cleaning schedule into 2-3 separate sessions. For instance, you can clean your bathroom and restroom in one day, living room and bedroom the other day, and the kitchen in one day. Finally, you can do the final touches as a part of another session. Prepare a schedule as per your convenience and start cleaning as early as you can. Also, to make the procedure of disposal easier, decide on an area where you wish to keep all your garbage.

2. Get ready with your pre-Diwali cleaning equipment and tools.

You must start with Diwali cleaning at least two weeks before the festival. Before you begin, make sure that all your Diwali cleaning tools are ready. For overall cleaning of your house, you will need simple things like a good disinfectant, cloth wipes, scrubs, brushes, brooms, garbage bags, among others. If you are allergic to dust and dirt, it is recommended to keep a scarf or mask handy.

3. Declutter all the things

Declutter all the things

One of the essential steps to the Diwali cleaning ritual is to get rid of the unwanted clutter from your house. Remove all the unnecessary things from your home that you have not used for a very long time. These items do not have any purpose at your place, and they make your space look untidy as well as small. You can donate the clothes that do not fit anymore, sell the gadgets that don’t function anymore and dump broken toys that have accumulated over the years.

4. Wash the curtains and covers

Fabrics such as curtains, carpets, and sofa covers are often neglected at the time of routine cleaning as these do not come in the way of daily house chores. Nonetheless, they start smelling and accumulate a lot of dust over a period of time. The best method to clean these is to wash them room by room. You can use a fabric softener and a stain remover to keep the cloth material soft as well as stain free.

5. Decluttering the wardrobe

Our wardrobe is a space which is not always well-organized. Well, it is high time that you take care of that. Start with removing old clothes or newspapers from the shelves. Rearrange and fold all the cluttered-clothes properly. Consider donating your old clothes for a good cause as, during the festival season, more and more NGOs require donations for underprivileged children. Do not forget to put the dirty clothes for washing.

6. Kitchen cleaning and scrubbing

Scrubbing the kitchen is tiresome, but it is not that hard. Make sure to gather ingredients such as vinegar, dishwashing liquid, baking soda, and warm water. Start by collecting all the kitchenware in one place. After that, begin by wiping boxes and racks, followed by bowls, dishes, and everything else. For cleaning kitchen appliances, use a dry cloth along with a cleanser. If there are any glassware, use a duster cloth to avoid any scratches.

7. Plan your decorations

It is a standard custom to buy beautiful decorative items during Diwali. You can decorate a few of them yourself, such as hand-painted candles and diyas, new vases or flower bowls, paper lanterns, among others. There are a wide variety of decorative items that you can choose from during the festival of lights. You can also use flickering lights to decorate your entire house.

Home Cleaning Tips – Conclusion

Diwali house cleaning is quite a tedious task. Planning makes all tasks easier so you can schedule your cleaning over a weekend. During this time, you can take the help of other family members of the house as well. To make things easier for you, assign tiresome tasks such as removing cobwebs or cleaning fans to the male members of your family. If your house is too huge, then consider the option of calling professional house cleaners that distinctively undertake cleaning at the time of festivals and special occasions.

Bathroom Lighting Decor Ideas

Bathrooms are intimate spaces where we spend a few of the most relaxing minutes of our day. Designing a bathroom with proper lighting could be the last thought on some people’s minds. However, with the help of appropriate lighting, even small bathrooms can be made to appear lavish and spacious. The perfect lamps and lights can change the ambiance of your bathrooms, making them look eye-catching and cozier. Read on about a bunch of creative lighting ideas for your bathroom.

1. Tape Lights or Under the Cabinet Lighting

If your bathroom is small and has less space to experiment with lighting, then you can install tape lights under the cabinet, countertop, or shelf. Bathroom sinks can appear dark or shadowy due to the cabinets and shelves placed above them. Adding under cabinet lights can illuminate the dark space, further making the bathroom appear larger. Tape LED lights provide a warm and nice glow to hard-to-light corners. The lights can also be disguised under the strips providing a tailored look to a small bathroom.

2. Add vanity lights on the sides of cabinet mirrors

Adding a single LED bulb to your bathroom will suffice for providing ambient light. However, these lights are not sufficient for grooming and beauty tasks. The light coming from overhead lights can cast shadows and lines on your face while putting on makeup or while shaving. Solve this issue by placing vanity lights or bath bars on sides of the mirror. Make sure to mount the light fixtures at a minimum of 28 inches distance and almost 60 inches above the ground. This step will ensure that the lighting is right to fall on your face.

3. Install a dimmer switch to control vanity lights

Bathroom lightings should be adequate for finishing your morning rituals as well as for providing a cozy mood light while you are soaking in the tub. Fortunately, you can instill your creativity in moving from one bathroom atmosphere to another. Nowadays, you can connect a dimmer switch with your vanity lights, allowing you to control the power to them. Along with providing different tones, dimmer switches will also assist in saving energy. These switches are available with a wide variety of lights, such as LED, fluorescent, and incandescent lighting.

4. Pick modern lamps and lightings

If your bathroom has ample space, then opt for decorative fixtures to light up the ceilings. You can turn off other lights and use semi-flush lights for ceilings and small chandeliers for setting up a calm environment in your bathrooms. If needed, decorate your bathroom counters with a compact portable light. Unlike traditional old bulbs, LED lights are efficient for saving power, and they are cheap as well. For modernizing vintage bathrooms, install sensor lights that can add a warm glow to the bathroom. Multifaceted pendant lights add a distinctive look to your private space.

5. Pick lampshades with prints

Adding printed sconces is one of the easiest and most effective ways to change the look of an outdated bathroom. You can place them in an area with colorful tiles to enliven the space around the lampshade. Opt for an adjustable sconce so that you can move the light around as per your requirement.

6. Directional lights for ceilings with different shapes

If you have a bathroom that’s L-shaped with unusual features or corners, then you can strategically put lighting in your bathrooms. These directional lights can illuminate large bathrooms perfectly. Use lights that can be adjusted to illuminate all corners in the bathroom.

7. Try different colors, LED light tones

With innovations in blending colors and designs, it has become easier to decorate your bathrooms with different light tones. Adding shades of cool colors like blue would be most suitable for having a relaxing shower after a long day at work. Similarly, adding warm tones can make your private space appealing as well as fashionable.

8. Add different layers of light

Add different layers of light
Picture: Collected

If you have a lavish bathroom, then you can try layered lighting for decorating your bathroom. This system uses three kinds of lights – accent, overall, and task. The overall lights, also known as recessed lights, are used for lighting up the entire space. Task lighting helps in illuminating different zones as per their functionality. The accent lights are pendant lights, panel lights, backlit mirrors, or profile lights. This system begins with the topmost layer – the ceiling and then works downwards to specific areas.

Place recessed lights over the showerhead

The showering area in the bathroom is typically separate from other zones through sliding doors or bathroom blinds. You can pick recessed lights for the showering zone. Make sure that the lights are made of glass lenses instead of plastic, as plastic becomes yellow with time due to exposure to steam and water.

9. Add task lights for different zones

Add task lights for different zones
Picture: Collected

Bathrooms also have different zones that are the bathing zone, toilet zone, and getting ready vanity zone. Lavish bathrooms comprise a dressing zone as well. Each area requires a distinctive lighting source. For instance, as discussed earlier, putting on makeup and shaving requires appropriate lighting across your face. Task lighting uses the concept of assigning different lighting for different zones. So, while designing your bathroom, you can add the right lighting fixtures as per the zones.

Bathroom Lighting Decor Ideas – Conclusion

It is advisable not to go overboard with the lighting in your bathrooms. Conduct proper research by taking pictures of your private space from varied angles. Avoid errors like using a large chandelier for a small bathroom, while using compact lights for a massive bathroom. Paints and tiles can enliven your bathrooms, but make sure that their color complements the lighting of your bathrooms. Also, distribute the lighting evenly to illuminate the entire space. Although picking the right lights and lamps can be a bit tricky as well as daunting, in the end, it will be worth your time.
